As a photographer, I’m sure we all have dealt with situations where we had to do the shoot when the lighting wasn’t our best friend. Too much shade, too little shade, too much sunlight, too little sunlight, ambient lights bouncing off all over the place etc. We all know lighting is one of the most difficult subject to master.
I do realize that I’m not very good at lighting, so when I set up a shoot, I try to pick a location and time where and when I get the best natural lighting possible. But sometimes things don’t go your way and you have to makedo with what the situation gives. That’s why I find videos like these really educational and helpful, because they teach you how to control lights with your speedlight, which should always be in your bag. Enjoy, and happy shooting!
Remember: it’s the shutter that controls ambient lights, and the aperture controls light from the flash.
