Ring lights and ring flashes are some of the most awesome lighting tools for fashion photography. It’s great because because it creates a wonderful highlight on the model’s skin, and allows for the shadows to fall away from the camera. Ring lights and ring flashes give excellent dimensions to your images, even though they point directly at your subjects. This could be both a good thing and a bad thing. The good thing is if you don’t plan on moving or zooming in/out too much in front of your talent, lighting is as easy as pressing a button. However, since the light is attached to your camera, things could get tricky when it comes to light output when you move.

In this tutorial video, Jay P. Morgan will walk us through all the advantages and limitations of using a ring light / ring flash, and how he utilized it for his Zombie Juice photoshoot. Frankly, I’d much rather have a piece of the hot girl than a sip of that juice icon smile Understanding Ring Lights / Ring Flashes by Jay P.
