So Annie Leibovitz recently had a photoshoot with Karlie Kloss and a bunch of America’s top male Olympians for Vogue US June 2012. I’m not sure about you, but these pictures look below average to me. In fact, I personally think most of Annie’s work is really mediocre. Sure she gets funded to shoot big projects for big companies, and her portfolio consists of quite a few celebs, but her final results look far behind some work that I’ve seen some other inspiring photographers that are not as famous. Take, for example, a look at Kessler Tran’s work, Quavondo’s work, Julia Kuzmenko’s work, Justin Grant’s work, Khoa Bui’s work, etc… I mean, there are so many talented photographers out there whose works are a lot more publish-worthy, yet I often times see mediocre work in magazines. I guess knowing your stuff isn’t really as important as knowing the right people. Although, it might be a good thing that the inspiring artists are more humbled and less sellout.
These photos look so bad, I thought they were shot by the guy who did the headshots for the US Olympic team. Some look completely out of proportion, some look like a Photoshop disaster. I’m no expert in either photography or Photoshop, but I’m almost certain I could do a better job.
