The ad industry watchdog in the UK, Advertising Standards Authority, has been at it again and managed to ban yet another advertising campaign that ran by Dior’s Diorshow New Look Mascara. If you could recall, they banned Julia Robert’s picture that was used by Lancome’s last year campaign. This time, they apparently thought Natalie Portman’s picture was photoshopped too much for the consumer’s eyes. Even though Natalie is pretty much a perfect woman, I must admit that there’s no way her eyelashes could look that good naturally.
We all realize there’s always retouching involve, but it’s clear that the UK is quite strict when comes to how much of it is done to an image. What do you think? Too much dictatorship, or too much false advertising?
By the way, if you haven’t heard, my friend Julia Kuzmenko has published her first ‘Creative Retouching Essentials in a Day’ eBook. It’s currently on sale as the writing time of this post. Grab a copy and start using Photoshop to see how far you can retouch without making it look retouched 🙂
