Networking can be quite fun and beneficial. As few weeks ago, I randomly met a photographer named Kiem Nguyen on Facebook through my brother’s. Kiem sounded like a very nice guy with great shooting style, so it was easy for me to strike up some conversations with him about photography stuff. On top of that, he’s a Nikon shooter, so there were even more bonus points given. Fast forward to 2 after that, Kiem had a casting call for some photographers in the area to shoot for a few models who were Miss Asia Sacramento Pageants. Our original meeting date was the week after, but thanks to the nasty rain that lasted for more than a week, the plan fell through the crack.
In the very long conversation between me, Kiem and other photogs, we decided to change the shooting place from University of Pacific to an industrial-looking warehouse located in downtown Sacramento. We went there last week for the shoot, and it turned out to be a very great and fun event.
The warehouse was courtesy of Sub Q Tattoo parlor. The shop owner, Rich “KAZ” Kazanjian, was nice enough to let us borrow his whole back warehouse for the shoot. Rich is a friend of Minh, who’s also a photographer. When I arrived at the shop, Minh was already there, ready to unload his gear from his car. We wheeled our gear to inside the warehouse and waited for a while. Finally, Kiem and another photographer turned up with a bunch of models. The fun began.
My first model: Yen Ban. Since I’d already had all the lighting set up inside the warehouse, I shot her right in the middle of the machines, tools and boxes. With great hair and makeup, her pictures came out really nice. Here are a few:
While we were taking a small break to switch “shooting stations”, I managed to snap a few photo of the model whom Kiem was shooting. She looked like a gem; it’s a bummer that I didn’t get a chance to work with as much. Maybe next time.
I stayed in the warehouse to take a few more photos, and then decided to go out the lobby and outside the building for the rest of the shoot.
This was a very fun and successful shoot. I hope to have another chance to work with these amazing people in the future. Special thanks to:
- Kiem Nguyen, who organized the shoot
- Minh Nguyen, who got us an awesome location to shoot
- Rich Kazanjian, who let us borrow his shop and warehouse
- Jenny Nguyen, who brought us a bottle of Grey Goose. It made the event extra fun!
- All the models who came out, you guys were good sports
- Hairstylists and makeup artists
